My Secret Sales Machine

How long should an SEO article be?

If you’re new to this, here’s the plain-English answer and what matters most.

There is no universal word count that makes an article rank in search results. A useful SEO article should be long enough to satisfy the question and short enough to avoid padding.

Let the question determine the depth

“What does CTA mean?” may need a short explanation and example. “How do I start affiliate marketing with no money?” naturally raises more follow-up questions and may need several sections. Both can be useful pages even if their word counts are very different.

A better checklist than counting words

  • Does the page answer the main question near the beginning?
  • Does it explain unfamiliar terms in plain language?
  • Does it cover the obvious follow-up questions a beginner would have?
  • Would an example, checklist or steps make the answer clearer?
  • Is anything included only to make the page longer?

Quality is not the same as length

A 1,500-word page that repeats itself can be less useful than a focused 600-word page. Likewise, a two-paragraph answer may be too thin when the reader needs context, examples or practical instructions.

SEO also involves more than body copy: descriptive titles, crawlable pages, sensible internal links, mobile usability, accurate canonicals and a site structure search engines can understand all matter. But technical setup cannot turn an unhelpful page into a helpful one.

Beginner takeaway: Stop writing to a number. Write until a beginner can understand the answer and know what to do next, then edit out anything that does not help.
